Abiotic Factor-Dedicated Server
In Abiotic Factor, you can set up a dedicated server in two ways. The first way is to host it yourself on your own computer. To do this, you need to download the Abiotic Factor Dedicated Server Tool from Steam. Hosting the server yourself is free, but you have to keep your computer running all the time, even if you're not playing.
The second way is to use a third-party server host, like Survival Servers. This option costs money because you pay a monthly fee to use their service. The advantage is that you don't need to keep your computer on all the time. The third-party server host takes care of everything, so your server is always available without needing any extra hardware on your end.
How do I join an Abiotic Factor Server?
- Log in to the BisectHosting Games panel.
- Go to the Startup tab.
- Take note of the server name and server password.
- Launch the Abiotic Factory.
- Enter the facility.
- Select Join a Server.
- On the upper right, enter the server name from step 3.
- Note: Let the server browser fully load before searching.
- Note: For faster discovery, entering a part of the server name over the full name is recommended.
- Select Refresh on the lower left.
- Click the server and hit Join.
- Enter the password from step 3 and click Confirm.
Preparing the Server
After installing the tool through Steam, find where it's installed on your computer. Look for the AbioticFactor folder, then go into Binaries and Win64. In this folder, create a text file called RunServer. You'll use this file to set up some launch settings for the server, like the server name and password. Make sure to save the file as "RunServer.bat" after making your changes.
Once you've set up the RunServer file, go back to the AbioticFactor folder, then into Saved, SaveGames, and Server. Find the Admin.ini file and open it. In this file, add your SteamID under the Moderators section. Your SteamID is a string of numbers that you can find at the top of your Steam profile. This step ensures that you have admin privileges on the server.
Editing Settings on a Dedicated Server
In the folder where you find the server tool, go to the folder named "AbioticFactor." Inside that folder, look for "Saved," then find "Config," and then "WindowsServer." To create a new settings file, make a new text file and name it whatever you want. Just remember to add a line to the "RunServer" file you made earlier. The line should say "-SandboxIniPath=[Config/WindowsServer/your file name here.ini]." This helps the server know where to look for the new settings file.
Once you've made the new text file, write the settings you need inside it. When you're done, save the file, but don't forget to add ".ini" at the end of the file name. This ".ini" part is very important because it tells the server that this is a configuration file. After you've done this, you can change the sandbox settings for the server.
