Bone Tomahawk Ending Explained
At the end of "Bone Tomahawk," Sheriff Hunt and Deputy Chicory are captured by the Troglodytes, who are cannibals. Arthur, Samantha's injured husband, follows their trail and learns how the Troglodytes communicate using a special bone whistle. He uses this to trick and kill some of them.
Arthur finds Hunt, Chicory, and Samantha in the Troglodytes' cave. They work together to kill the Troglodyte leader. Hunt is badly hurt and knows he won't survive, so he decides to stay behind with a rifle to protect the town from any remaining Troglodytes. Arthur, Samantha, and Chicory leave the cave and hear three gunshots in the distance, which likely means Hunt is fighting off more Troglodytes. They walk away, knowing Hunt sacrificed himself to keep them and the town safe.
Bone Tomahawk Wiki
Bone Tomahawk is a Western movie made in 2015 by S. Craig Zahler. It was his first time directing a movie. The main actors are Kurt Russell, Patrick Wilson, Matthew Fox, Richard Jenkins, Lili Simmons, Evan Jonigkeit, David Arquette, Zahn McClarnon, and Sid Haig. Jack Heller and Dallas Sonnier made it. The story is about a sheriff from a small town. He leads a group of people into a faraway place to save three folks who were taken by a group of Native Americans who eat people.
The idea for the movie started when Zahler's friend, Dallas Sonnier, said they should make a movie from Zahler's book, Wraiths of a Broken Land. But it would cost too much money, so Zahler wrote a different story about a rescue in the Old West. They started picking actors in October 2014. At first, they got Peter Sarsgaard, Timothy Olyphant, and Jennifer Carpenter. But they had to change them to Wilson, Fox, and Simmons because of timing problems. They shot the movie over 21 days in California in October 2014.
Bone Tomahawk first showed at Fantastic Fest on October 1, 2015. After that, RLJ Entertainment put it out in a few theaters on October 23. It did well, making over $480,000 in theaters and $4.32 million in sales from home media. People liked the movie, saying Zahler's writing and directing were good, along with the acting from everyone in the cast. Since then, it's become a favorite among fans.
Bone Tomahawk Plot
In the 1890s, two criminals, Purvis and Buddy, stumble upon a Native American burial site and are attacked. Buddy dies, but Purvis escapes to the town of Bright Hope. The town’s sheriff, Franklin Hunt, catches Purvis and gets the doctor’s assistant, Samantha, to treat his wound. That night, the stable boy is killed, and Purvis, Samantha, and Deputy Nick are kidnapped by cannibalistic Troglodytes.
Sheriff Hunt, his deputy Chicory, gunslinger Brooder, and Samantha’s injured husband Arthur form a rescue team. They face many dangers, including ambushes and fights, losing their horses along the way. Arthur, despite his injury, follows them and learns the Troglodytes' secret whistle.
In the end, Hunt and Chicory are captured but Arthur arrives to save them. They kill the Troglodyte leader, but Hunt stays behind, mortally wounded, to protect the town. Arthur, Samantha, and Chicory escape, hearing Hunt's final gunshots in the distance.

Bone Tomahawk Filming Location
"Bone Tomahawk" was filmed mostly at the Paramount Ranch in California, taking just 21 days. Before deciding on this spot, the crew also looked at places in New Mexico, Utah, and Romania. The director, Zahler, had to be very careful with the schedule and budget because experts said it might take 60 days and $10 million to film. They used a RED Dragon camera to film scenes with many characters. Zahler didn’t like this camera because it was visually noisy, so he used a different one for his next movie.
One of the most famous scenes is in the troglodytes' cave, where a character named Nick is brutally killed. This cave was also used in the TV show "Weeds" and the movie "Iron Man" (2008). Zahler didn’t focus too much on the troglodytes to keep them mysterious and used long shots to show violence, making the characters seem stronger.
