Chicago Med Season Finale
In the Season 8 finale of Chicago Med, a lot of old memories come back for the characters. The episode starts with Ripley and Hannah finally having some tea and kissing when Ripley gets a call from the hospital, which needs more staff. The next morning, Hannah brings him coffee, but work interrupts them again. A dangerous prisoner arrives, played by Jeff Kober, the same actor who played a scary vampire on Buffy the Vampire Slayer, adding a creepy feel to his scenes.
Ripley asks Dr. Charles for help, and they find out that the prisoner has late-stage dementia. This means he might get hurt in prison because he’s confused and doesn’t follow orders. Ripley gets upset and blames Charles for not standing up for the prisoner, just like he didn’t stand up for Ripley when he was younger. Charles gets angry and says he’s tired of apologizing and protecting Ripley. Meanwhile, Sully comes in for chemo and talks to Ripley about their friend Pawel. Sully thinks Ripley is going soft for letting Pawel get away with a fake lawsuit. “What happened to you? You used to be the king of payback,” Sully says.
Ripley goes to an appointment at the DMV. When he gets back, Pawel is brought into the ER. Pawel says he was attacked and blames Ripley. Even though the police ask Ripley about it, he stays quiet and leaves without defending himself. Everyone, including Hannah, is shocked. But I think Sully might be the real attacker.
In other parts of the finale:
- Burt’s condition is getting worse, but Goodwin feels like sending him to a facility is like abandoning him. Her very understanding boyfriend, Dennis, isn’t mad that her ex-husband is living with her, but he is upset that Goodwin isn’t letting him help her. He tells her that a relationship is a partnership and asks her to let him in. Seeing Ripley's patient who can’t get the help he needs makes Goodwin realize it’s time to find a place that can take care of Burt. She asks Dennis to come with her to the facility, and he shows up to support her.
- Crockett is shaken by the news that his former patient died and the boy’s father committed suicide. He feels so upset that he leaves a surgery. The situation brings up old feelings of helplessness and grief for Crockett, who tearfully tells Maggie that he understands how the dad felt because he also lost a child. He admits that he never really grieved for his daughter’s death, making me wonder if he’ll come to work the next day like he says he will.
- Archer treats an addict from the facility where Margot and Sean work. Sean, who is the addict's sponsor, takes it very hard and feels betrayed that his dad is being more lenient with the addict than he was with Sean.
Is Chicago PD Ending?
The Season 9 finale aired on May 22, 2024, but there hasn't been any official announcement about Season 12 yet. The finale didn't seem like a series finale because it left some things hanging, and a favorite character made a surprise return. Usually, when a show ends for good, there's a big announcement from the network or the creators. But we haven't heard anything like that about Chicago P.D. yet.
The fact that there were cliffhangers in the last episode and that a beloved character came back suggests that there might be more to come. But until there's an official announcement, we can't be sure. Fans of the show are probably hoping for another season, but we'll have to wait and see what happens. So for now, it's a bit of a mystery whether Chicago P.D. will continue or if it's coming to an end.
