Did Mariko Die in Shogun?
Yes Mariko did not die in Shogun.So, Mariko is one of the characters from the series Shogun who was initially speculated that he had died. However, it is known that Mariko did not die and is alive because of her marriage to Buntaro whose real name is Shinnosuke Abe. She's still angry at him because he stopped her from dying with her family. This woman's life has been a waste for Lord Toranaga, played by a person called Hiroyuki Sanada. But now, he has something important for her to do. She spent weeks translating for a foreigner, getting involved in a love affair, and feeling desperate for death. Finally, she's ready to carry out Toranaga's plan.
Shogun Episode 9 Explained
At the ending explained of the series, we get to see Yabushige who cheats on his group and allows ninjas to come inside who were called by Ishido for the reason to not allow anyone to get out of the palace. Mariko and Blackthorne were having a romantic time together when Ishido's men suddenly appeared and interrupted them. Mariko, along with Blackthorne and some others, managed to run away to a storage room.
There, they tried to stop Ishido's men from breaking down the door and getting to them. But Yabushige was in a situation where he provided no help and leaves back Blackthorne struggling alone. So in the final moments, uses her body to shield the door and speaks out against Ishido before the explosion hits. At the end of the story, she stands in front of the explosion. The main point of the story isn't really about a huge fight for Japan's future, but about Mariko dealing with her struggles and deciding to sacrifice herself to help others. It's a win for her because she finds meaning in her sacrifice, but it's also sad because she loses her life.
