There, they tried to stop Ishido's men from breaking down the door and getting to them. But Yabushige was in a situation where he provided no help and leaves back Blackthorne struggling alone. So in the final moments, uses her body to shield the door and speaks out against Ishido before the explosion hits. At the end of the story, she stands in front of the explosion. The main point of the story isn't really about a huge fight for Japan's future, but about Mariko dealing with her struggles and deciding to sacrifice herself to help others. It's a win for her because she finds meaning in her sacrifice, but it's also sad because she loses her life.
