Dragons Dogma 2 Moniker

In Dragon's Dogma, monikers refer to the nickname that you can give your character in the event that the system discovers that you have given your pawn or Arisen a spicy name. If you have a spicy name, your nickname will still be visible, but if you are loading with other players, your nickname will be visible.

Creating your character can take a lot of time, especially considering how much customization there is in Dragon's Dogma 2. You might want to play with your friends, but your name might not be right. That's where monikers come in. Monikers are distinct from character names, which you have complete control over.

However, your character name can only be chosen from a pre-determined list of names. For example, you named your character Hayley and then chose Lancellot as your name because Hayley isn’t available and neither is WizardWarlord! The list of monikers includes basic G-rated names such as Lancellot, Sagitarrius, etc.

This is basically CAPCOM's way of controlling our character's names. It should also be noted that there is no option to add a moniker even if it is G or PG-friendly. You can change your character and name in the Character creation tool before launch. However, it is unclear if you can change your character's name once you start playing the campaign.

Function of Moniker option in Dragons Dogma 2

A 'Moniker' is a nickname that is given to a character. In Dragon's Dogma 2, it works the same way. The reason why Monikers were introduced is because consoles have parental control options. Just like the original game, Pawns can be bought from other players and added to your team. You can also customize and name your Pawns.

Although the game is M rated, Capcom would not have known that children would not be playing the game. The lack of Monikers in the game somewhat mitigates this problem. Of course, there’s the graphic violence, the mature themes, etc., but these simply cannot be avoided. In this case, real parental involvement would be the answer. The Moniker comes down to a simple nickname that adds a little bit of lore to your character.

You don’t have to choose a Moniker that’s related to your character’s name. You can call your Pawn “Kevin” and choose a random word like “Facada” as your Moniker, and nothing will stop you from being as silly as the combination sounds. In any case, this is the secret of Monikers. Choose a Moniker you love, or one that relates to your Pawn's history (if you can think of one), and most players will still mainly focus on their name (especially if it's a friend-of-mine Pawn).

The game’s director is Hideaki Ituno, who stated that one of the team’s main objectives was to bring improvements to the game’s gameplay mechanics, and to include features that had been cut from the original game due to the lack of technology at that time. Itsuno further stated that the sequel may not have as many elements that feel brand new or different as the first game, but that it will be more refined and improved to provide a more immersive experience for the player.

Dragon’s Dogma 2’s release date was announced by the publisher in June 2022. The game was further announced at a showcase in November 2022. It was then announced that the game will be released for PlayStation 5 and Windows, as well as Xbox Series X/S, on 22 March 2024.

Dragon's Dogma 2 Gameplay

Dragon’s Dogma 2, also known as Dragon’s Moon, is a 3rd-person action RPG. The player plays as the character called the “Arisen,” a dragon-marked hero who must defeat enemies, explore the world they inhabit, take part in quests, and fight monsters, all while getting caught in a geopolitical tug-of-war between rival kingdoms.

The Arisen is aided by allies known as “Pawns,” non-player characters that join the player’s party. These characters are AI controlled, but function as player-controlled Avatars, aiding in combat, giving information about enemies, and guiding current quests. You can create and customize your avatar, as well as your own Pawn, with different gender, appearance, and race options. Additionally, you can recruit two other Pawns from other players.

The Arisen and the Pawns both work under a “vocation” – a set of abilities and equipment that defines what they can do in battle, with their strengths and weaknesses being different. Vocations range from basic to advanced to hybrid, with the latter only available to Arises; and only the Arises and their pawns can change their vocations.

Dragon’s Dogma 2 takes place in a smooth open world that’s four times the size of the original game’s map, and it’s set in a parallel universe to that of its predecessor. The game’s world is divided into two major kingdoms: Vermund, home to humans, and Battahl, home to cats and elves.

Players can quickly travel between the two kingdoms using ferrystones or oxcarts. It’s possible to set up camp at night at various campsites throughout the game world, and emergent events can occur throughout the game, which forces players to respond and adapt.
