FFXIV Dawntrail
Final Fantasy XIV: Dawntrail, releasing on July 2, 2024, is the game's fifth expansion. Directed by Naoki Yoshida and featuring music by Masayoshi Soken, it takes players to Tural, a new continent. Here, they participate in a rite to choose Tulliyollal's next leader, supporting Wuk Lamat.
Allies from Eorzea join in, backing different candidates. Building on Endwalker's storyline, Dawntrail offers a "summer vacation" for the Warrior of Light, introducing new areas, raising the level cap, and adding two new classes and a playable race.
This expansion also brings the game's first major graphical update since its 2013 relaunch. It will be available as a standalone for current players and as part of the Complete Edition for newcomers.
FFXIV Dawntrail Gameplay
In Final Fantasy XIV: Dawntrail, the gameplay remains similar to the base game. Players explore a persistent world where their actions shape the story. Two new jobs are introduced: Viper, an agile dual-wielding class inspired by characters like Zidane from Final Fantasy IX. Vipers can combine their swords into a powerful two-handed weapon for certain attacks.
The second new job is Pictomancer, a mage who uses magical paint to cast spells that damage enemies or support the party, inspired by Relm Arrowny from Final Fantasy VI. Krile, a beloved character, also adopts the Pictomancer class in this expansion.
Director Yoshida has mentioned that these new jobs feel more refined compared to earlier ones. Additionally, a new job called Beastmaster will be added as a "Limited" job, with similar matchmaking restrictions as the Blue Mage.
FFXIV Dawntrail Plot
In Final Fantasy XIV: Dawntrail, players journey to Tural, a continent inspired by Latin America and Southeast Asia. They join the Warrior of Light and the Scions in Tulliyollal, where a rite determines the next leader, Wuk Lamat. Allies from Eorzea support different candidates.
The adventure unfolds across diverse regions like the bustling city of Tulliyollal, the mountainous Urqopacha, the lush Kozama'uka rainforest, the frontier-like Xak Tural, and the mysterious Shades Triangle. It's a new chapter after Endwalker's events, featuring new areas, classes, and a major graphical update.
