How Did Moldaver Survive in Fallout?

Fallout

Fallout is a TV show on Amazon Prime Video about a post-apocalyptic world after a major war in 2077. It's based on a popular video game series and stars Ella Purnell, Aaron Moten, Kyle MacLachlan, Moisés Arias, Xelia Mendes-Jones, and Walton Goggins.

Amazon got the rights to make this live-action series in 2020, and they announced it in July of that year. It's produced by Jonathan Nolan and Lisa Joy's Kilter Films, along with Bethesda Game Studios. The first three episodes were directed by Nolan. Todd Howard, who worked on the game series, is an executive producer.

The show premiered on Prime Video on April 10, 2024, and got positive reviews. It got renewed for a second season in the same month.

The story is set after a nuclear war where people live in a retrofuturistic society. Lucy, the main character, leaves her shelter to find her kidnapped father in a dangerous wasteland. She meets other survivors, including a Brotherhood of Steel squire and a ghoul bounty hunter, who all have their secrets and goals.

  • One of the major twists is that Moldaver is a survivor from the pre-war world, revealed in the second half of season 1.
  • She was a scientist working on cold fusion, whose work was halted by Vault-Tec to control energy access.
  • Moldaver's actions against Vault-Tec and her involvement with Cooper Howard significantly impact the storyline.

4. Leader of New California Republic

  • Moldaver was a leader in the New California Republic community of Shady Sands, as unveiled in the season finale.
  • Her survival after the city's destruction, leadership among survivors, and anti-Vault-Tec stance further define her character.

5. Religious Reverence

  • Her vast knowledge and actions to restore the lost world earn her respect and devotion.

6. Potential Return in Season 2

  • Moldaver's apparent death does not rule out her return due to the show's focus on past and present narratives.
  • There are hints that she may be transformed or healed like Thaddeus, making her a significant figure in Fallout's unresolved plot threads.

How Did Moldaver Survive in Fallout?

In Fallout, Moldaver has been alive since before the war, but the reason isn't confirmed. People know her as Moldaver or Lee Moldaver, but The Ghoul remembers her as Miss Williams, whom he met over 200 years ago.

She's not the only pre-war character; Vault-Tec's top employees were in suspended animation. However, Moldaver's status isn't explained, and she's not on Vault 31's employee list. Plus, she doesn't look like a ghoul.

Fallout offers a few theories as to why she is still alive.

  • Moldaver might be a synth, an android indistinguishable from humans.
  • She could be a clone of Miss Williams.
  • Perhaps she was in cryo-sleep at some point.
  • She might be a ghoul or have some form of immortality.

Synths were post-war creations, but Moldaver could have preserved her brain and transferred it into a synth body later. This technology is seen in Fallout 4 and 3. Her involvement with the NCR and the destruction of Shady Sands suggests a deep connection to the NCR.

There's no definite answer yet, but we may get to know more about why Moldaver has lived so long in the upcoming seasons of Fallout.
