To promote units in Unicorn Overlord, you need to reach Renown Rank B. Once you're there, head to any Fort you control. There, you'll meet Josef who will tell you about the promotion feature. Just choose "Promote" from the menu. To actually promote a unit, you'll need at least 25 Honors. The cost can vary from 25 to 35 Honors depending on the character.
