Is a Man In Full a True Story?
A Man in Full is not based on a true story, even though it portrays modern-day Atlanta realistically. The Netflix series is based on Tom Wolf's novel, but the ending is different and there are fewer plot points. The show is based on Wolf's classic book, but there are some changes to the character of Charlie Croker and the plot. The show does a great job of incorporating real-life places and institutions into its narrative, but it's not a true story.
'A Man in Full' is the TV series adaptation of Tom Wolf's 1998 novel. The novel is about a real estate developer in Atlanta, named Charlie Croker. He was born when Wolf visited his friend Mack Taylor's estate. The novel is loosely based on a type of Atlanta businessman, known as the "60 Minute Man".
A Man In Full Plot
A Man in Full takes place in Atlanta, Georgia, the capital of the Southern United States. Billionaire real estate magnate, industrialist, and philanthropist, Charlie Croker, (Jeff Daniels), is about to lose his vast real estate empire to bankruptcy. The old saying, “The higher they rise, the lower they fall,” rings true for Charlie as his business rivals and old enemies vie for control of his empire. Some familiar faces from his past, such as his former wife, Martha ( Diane Lane), appear with their own motivations.
As Charlie struggles to maintain his financial and social power, another battle is brewing that will consume the city and its people. A racially-charged trial is about to take place in Atlanta, and the city’s elite, such as Charlie, as well as the high-powered politicians and their cronies, will be caught up in the frenzy of media coverage. The strained racial tensions of the trial will have an impact on everyone’s life. The working class and the underprivileged people of Atlanta will pay the price.
