Is Deacon Leaving SWAT?
Jay Harrington, who plays Deacon, posted on Instagram in April 2024 that the show is coming back for Season 8. He seemed really excited and said there would be 22 more episodes. Harrington was also in a video with Shemar Moore, who plays Hondo. In the video, Moore announced that the show was renewed for Season 8 and thanked the fans for their support.
In an interview before the Season 7 finale, Harrington said he’s not leaving. He explained that Deacon is thinking about retiring, but he’s still around for now. He mentioned there are two more episodes to see how it all works out, and he thinks fans will enjoy it. Deacon is a very important part of the 20-Squad and has been on the team for over 10 years.
In Season 7, Hondo finds out from his wife that Deacon might retire. Deacon explains to Hondo that he needs to spend more time with his family now that his wife is working full-time. Deacon gives his resignation notice at the end of the episode, but the show's renewal makes fans hope he might stay. Shemar Moore even hinted that characters who left might come back.
Why is Deacon 30 David?
Deacon is in Hondo's team, but his call sign is 30-David instead of a 20 Squad number. The leader of a squad usually has a call sign that matches their squad number, for example, Hondo's call sign is 20-David because he leads the 20 Squad. It looks like 30-David should lead the 30 Squad, not be part of the 20 Squad. The show is a little confusing but that's just the way it is.
Is Season 7 of S.W.A.T. the last Season?
No, S.W.A.T. will have more seasons after Season 7. At first, the last episode of Season 7 was supposed to be the end of the series, and the creators had made it to conclude the entire story. Surprisingly, the show will continue for Season 8. This means that fans will be able to watch additional episodes featuring Hondo and his team.
In the last episode of Season 7, many significant events occur. Hondo is feeling stressed about a big case and is concerned about his team. The team needs to stop a big danger from eco-terrorists, and they receive assistance from FBI agent Jackie Vasquez. At the end of the episode, Hondo is able to gather most of his team and Deacon changes his mind about retiring.
This creates new plots for the upcoming season. Producer Andrew Dettmann said they wanted to test Hondo and his team by putting a lot of pressure on them. Now that Season 8 is happening, fans can be excited to see how the challenges will keep happening and what new adventures the team will have.
