Is Insurgency Sandstorm Crossplay?
Insurgency Sandstorm does have some crossplay, but it's limited. Xbox players can team up with others on Xbox One and Xbox Series X/S, and PS4 players can play with PS5 players. PC players can also play with others who own the game on Steam, Epic Games, or Xbox Game Pass. However, Xbox and PlayStation players cannot team up together, and there's no cross-progression. Developers are working on expanding crossplay and cross-progression, but there's no set date for these updates yet.
Insurgency Sandstorm
Insurgency: Sandstorm is a multiplayer tactical first-person shooter game made by New World Interactive and published by Focus Home Interactive. It's a follow-up to the 2014 game Insurgency. The game is set in a made-up Middle Eastern region and shows a battle between two groups: "Security" (based on various military forces like NATO, U.S. SOCOM, and Kurdish fighters) and "Insurgents" (based on groups like ISIS, the Taliban, and al-Qaeda).
The game was first announced in February 2016 for Microsoft Windows and released on December 12, 2018. Versions for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One faced many delays but finally came out on September 29, 2021. Later, versions for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S were released on January 30, 2024. The planned versions for Linux and macOS were cancelled.
Insurgency: Sandstorm was praised for its realistic gameplay, well-designed levels, great sound, immersive atmosphere, graphics, and smooth animations. However, it was also criticized for technical problems and poor optimization, and some players were disappointed that the planned story campaign was cancelled. Despite these issues, it's considered one of the best shooter games available.
Insurgency Sandstorm Gameplay
Insurgency: Sandstorm features realistic and tactical gameplay with minimal on-screen information, so players don't see health bars, ammo counts, or minimaps. The game emphasizes teamwork and cooperation, as weapons are very accurate and can kill in just a few shots. Most game modes do not have instant respawns; players must wait for their team to complete an objective to come back to life.
Players are divided into two teams: Security and Insurgents. Security uses weapons from NATO and Western countries, while Insurgents use a mix of Russian, Chinese, and older Western weapons. Each faction's weapons are unique and don't always perform the same way.
Players can choose from eight different classes, each with its own weapons and equipment. They have limited points to spend on gear, which also affects their movement speed and stamina. Weapons can be customized with various attachments like sights, laser pointers, and suppressors. Equipment includes items like gas masks, night-vision goggles, and different types of grenades.
The game also has a fire support system where a Commander can call for airstrikes or other support if a friendly Observer is nearby. Security can call in helicopters and precise airstrikes, while Insurgents can use drones, rocket artillery, and chemical gas attacks. Both teams can use explosive and smoke artillery.
