Later, it was remastered in HD and released worldwide in Kingdom Hearts HD 1.5 Remix for the PlayStation 3. It was also included in Kingdom Hearts HD 1.5 + 2.5 Remix for PS4, Xbox One, Windows, and Nintendo Switch. The game mixes Disney characters with Square's Final Fantasy series, along with its own new characters and worlds.

You play as Sora, a cheerful teen fighting dark forces with Disney allies like Donald Duck and Goofy. Unlike Square's usual games, it focuses more on action and hack-and-slash gameplay. The music was composed by Yoko Shimomura, and it features many Disney characters with their original voice actors.

Kingdom Hearts was praised for its unique mix of action and role-playing, combining Square and Disney elements smoothly. It became a big hit, spawning a franchise with over 36 million copies sold worldwide.

At the beginning, players choose whether Sora focuses on strength, defense, or magic, influencing his development. The game unfolds in a linear manner through story events and cutscenes, though there are optional side quests. Players can explore interconnected maps where battles happen in real time.

Combat involves using buttons to attack and a menu for magic and items, similar to Final Fantasy games. Players can also summon Disney characters like Dumbo to aid in battles. The Gummi Ship mode offers a different gameplay style, acting as a rail shooter in outer space.

Players pilot the ship, avoiding obstacles and battling enemies. As the game progresses, they can customize the ship with new weapons and upgrades.
