Is NCIS Hawaii Canceled?

CBS had to make difficult decisions regarding its shows, especially those on the bubble, after achieving significant ratings success this TV season. This led to the surprising cancellation of "NCIS: Hawai'i," "CSI: Vegas," and "So Help Me Todd." George Cheeks, the network's president and CEO, explained that the overall performance and financial factors were the main reasons for abruptly ending these shows.

During a news briefing to unveil CBS's 2024-25 schedule, CBS Entertainment president Amy Reisenbach emphasized the importance of keeping the schedule fresh and maintaining momentum. She mentioned that they faced tough choices due to the strong performance of all their shows this year.

CBS achieved a historic 16th consecutive season as the most-watched broadcast network in primetime for the 2023-24 season. Reisenbach attributed this success to the strong ratings of their entire lineup despite production delays from last year's Hollywood double strikes.

Despite the cancellations, CBS remains committed to the "CSI" franchise, with another project within the brand actively in development. Although "NCIS: Hawai'i" was canceled, the "NCIS" franchise will continue with the flagship series and "Origins" returning in the fall, followed by "Sydney" in the spring. Reisenbach expressed confidence in the franchise's longevity, believing it will last for many more episodes.

The final episodes of "NCIS: Hawai'i," "So Help Me Todd," and "CSI: Vegas" will air on May 16, and 19, respectively.

CBS Entertainment President Amy Reisenbach explained that the cancellation was due to the network's thorough review of its content and finances following strikes by the Writer’s Guild of America and SAG-AFTRA. Reisenbach mentioned the need to keep the schedule fresh and make tough decisions based on financials and overall performance.

Reisenbach clarified that there won't be an "un-cancellation" like "S.W.A.T." received before, and NCIS: Hawai’i won't be picked up by other networks either.

Deadline reported that the show faced challenges due to a packed schedule, cost management efforts. It's noted that while renewing "Hawai’i" might have been an easy decision previously, CBS has other NCIS series planned, along with new scripted shows. Similar to "Hawaii Five-0," which ended after 10 seasons, the high filming costs in Hawaii likely played a role in "NCIS: Hawai’i" being canceled.
