He was asked how he managed his routine on the pommel horse without wearing glasses, even though he has used prescription goggles in the past. Nedoroscik explained that his vision isn't always clear, but if he wore glasses, they might fall off during his routine. Instead, he relies on his sense of touch. He said he doesn’t really see what he's doing when he’s on the pommel horse; he just feels everything with his hands.

What Eye Condition Does Stephen Nedoroscik Have?

Stephen Nedoroscik wears glasses because he has two eye conditions: strabismus and coloboma.

Strabismus means his eyes are not aligned properly. Normally, six muscles control the movement of each eye to keep them focused and aligned. In people with strabismus, these muscles don’t work together correctly, causing the eyes to be misaligned. This condition is usually found in children but can also affect adults. It can create challenges with social interactions, jobs, and self-esteem.

Coloboma is a condition where part of the eye tissue is missing. This can cause sensitivity to light, vision problems, or even blindness. It affects about 1 in 10,000 babies born each year and is genetic.

Nedoroscik first talked about his coloboma in a TikTok video in 2022, explaining how it affects him and how he manages the light sensitivity. Despite these challenges, he has excelled in gymnastics and gained a lot of support from the American public.
