Is Tom Tolbert Fired? What Happened to Tom Tolbert?
Former NBA player and KNBR host Tom Tolbert was fired from the multi-platform sports station. Tolbert confirmed his departure in a text to SFGATE, and KNBR’s station owner, Cumulus Media, also confirmed the news.
Tom Tolbert, a former NBA player, joined the Bay Area in 1989 when he played for the Golden State Warriors. He spent three seasons with the Warriors, contributing to the team during his seven-year professional basketball career.
After retiring from the NBA, Tolbert returned to the Bay Area and transitioned to a broadcasting career. In 1996, he joined KNBR, a prominent Bay Area sports radio station, where he became well-known for his sports insights and charismatic hosting style.
In 1996, Tom Tolbert joined KNBR, a well-known San Francisco sports radio station, as a co-host for The Razor and Mr. T, a radio talk show alongside Ralph Barbieri, a seasoned Bay Area sports radio personality.
The show quickly gained popularity, especially with male listeners aged 25 to 54, and became one of the top-rated sports talk shows in the area. Known for its engaging sports commentary and lively discussions, The Razor and Mr. T developed a strong fanbase.
After Barbieri's departure from KNBR in 2012, the show was renamed The Mr. T Show, with Tolbert continuing as the primary host. His conversational style, humor, and deep knowledge of sports allowed him to maintain the show’s popularity even after the change, further cementing his status as a well-loved figure in Bay Area sports media.
Along with Tom Tolbert, John Lund was also let go by KNBR.
