Pokémon World Championship
The Pokémon World Championships started with the Pokémon Trading Card Game (TCG) in 2004. Later, in 2009, Play! Pokémon began organizing competitive tournaments for the Pokémon video games too, known as the Video Game Championships (VGC). Just like in the TCG Championships, players compete in different age groups as Junior, Senior, and Masters.
In VGC tournaments, players use the latest Pokémon video game each year. For example, in 2016, Pokkén Tournament also got its own championship series at the Pokémon World Championships. Every year, the age category and country of the players determine how they are eligible for the Championships. Some players may even skip the first day and go straight to the playoffs if they perform really well in earlier rounds.
When And Where is it Happening?
The 2024 Pokémon World Championships are happening in Honolulu, Hawaii. And it will happen from August 16 to 18 at the Hawaii Convention Center. This is the fourth time that Hawaii is hosting the Pokémon Worlds, but it's the first time it's going to happen in Honolulu. Before this, the events were held in Waikoloa Village in 2007, 2010, and 2012.
Those who have played throughout the season will get invited to join the event. Every year, thousands of players and fans from around the world come to compete in different Pokémon games at this event.
