Unicorn Overlord

Unicorn Overlord is a new video game being made by Vanillaware and published by Atlus in Japan and Sega everywhere else. It's coming out on March 8, 2024, for Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S. The game is set in a place called Fevrith, which is in the middle of a big war. You play as a prince named Alain who got kicked out of his kingdom, and now he's trying to gather friends to help him take it back from the Zenoiran Empire, which is led by General Valmore. The game is all about Alain and his army fighting big battles, and you control them in real-time.

Unicorn Overlord was an idea that someone named Takafumi Noma came up with in 2014. The boss of the company, George Kamitani, thought it was a good idea, so Noma became the director, programmer, and main artist. They wanted to make a game that felt like the classic tactical games from the '90s but with modern graphics and features. It took about ten years to make because they were working on other games at the same time. The music for the game was made by a team from Basiscape, which is a group of people who have worked with Vanillaware before.

• Description: A cruel despot who employs wicked, forbidden arts. Excels at offense and defense in equal measure. Bears attacks skills which can cause afflictions.

Doom Knight

• User: Doom Knight
• Description: Boasts skills that grow more powerful at low HP. Effective against infantry-based foes such as Housecarls. Ineffective against foes with anti-cavalry skills.
• Leader Effect: Quick Rest - Reduce wait time while resting.

Feathersword

• User: Ochlys
• Description: Boasts excellent Evasion and Magick Defense. Grows stronger in daytime battles. Can lower enemy Evasion, ineffective against anti-flying.
• Leader Effect: Flight - Ignore terrain and trap effects when moving.

Fighter

• Users: Lex, Colm
• Description: Bears excellent Physical Defense. Can protect allies from long-range physical attacks. Ineffective against anti-armor magick attacks.
• Leader Effect: Resist Ranged Assist - Take less damage from ranged assists.

Gladiator

• User: Bruno
• Description: Boasts physical attack skills to hit an entire enemy row. High HP makes them pair well with Clerics. Their Physical and Magick Defense are both quite low.
• Leader Effect: Barrier Breaker - Can break gates and barricades more easily.

Great Knight

• Description: Excels at offense and defense in equal measure. Effective against infantry-based foes such as Housecarls. Ineffective against foes with anti-cavalry skills.

Gryphon Knight

• User: TBD
• Description: Boasts high Evasion, Attack, and Magick Defense. Effective against cavalry-based foes such as Knights. Ineffective against foes with anti-flying skills.

Hoplites

• Description: Boasts excellent Physical Defense. Possesses the ability to protect allies in battle. Ineffective against anti-armor and magick attacks.

• Description: Boasts Excellent Physical Attack. Can lower enemy Physical Defense.

Unicorn Overlord Plot

Unicorn Overlord takes place in Fevrith, a continent divided into five nations with various inhabitants like humans, elves, angels, and bestrals. The story follows Alain, the prince of Cornia, whose kingdom is conquered by the rogue general Valmore. Alain, saved by his bodyguard Josef, grows up and leads the Liberation Army to defeat Valmore and regain control of their lands, armed with the magical Ring of the Unicorn.

Unicorn Overlord Gameplay

Unicorn Overlord is a game where you play as a prince named Alain leading the Liberation Army across the fantasy world of Fevrith. You explore towns, gather resources, and engage in battles. Combat happens in real-time, with parties of up to six characters fighting on large battlefields. You can pause to plan your strategy. Each character has a class and abilities, and battles continue until one side is defeated or runs out of action points. There are different difficulty levels and an online multiplayer mode available.
