However, when he gets back, he finds that his actions in the past have changed his present-day life in unexpected ways. In the second movie, Marty and Doc travel to 2015 to stop Marty's future son from getting involved in a crime. During their mission, Biff Tannen, an old enemy, steals the time machine and goes back to 1955 to give his younger self a sports almanac, creating an alternate 1985 where Biff is wealthy and powerful.

In this version of 1985, Marty's father is dead, and his mother is married to Biff. Marty and Doc go back to 1955 again to retrieve the almanac and fix the timeline. While doing this, the time machine gets struck by lightning, sending Doc to 1885. In the third movie, Marty travels to 1885 to save Doc, who is stuck in the Old West and in danger of being killed by Biff's ancestor, Mad Dog Tannen.

When Marty arrives, he finds Doc working as a blacksmith. They face several challenges, including a bear chase and encounters with outlaws. Doc falls in love with a woman named Clara Clayton but is conflicted about whether to stay with her or return to 1985. Eventually, Marty and Doc manage to return to 1985, despite the time machine being damaged. Through these adventures, Marty learns important lessons about life and the consequences of his actions across different time periods.
