Who is Russell?
Russell is one of the main characters in the movie and is a wilderness explorer. His parents are divorced, and he lives with his mother.
He comes to Carl’s house, who is a 78-year-old balloon salesman and wants to help him with some basic tasks and earn a badge, but Carl is arrogant toward him and sends him away.
Then, by accident, he joins Carl on his trip to Australia, but it turns out to be a great adventure for them both. They even encounter a giant bird and a talking dog on their journey.
What Happened to Russell's Dad in Up?
From the very beginning of the film, there is no information about Russell’s dad other than the fact that he divorced Russell’s mom and went away.
According to some theories from fans, there is a construction supervisor shown at the beginning of the movie who almost has Russell’s facial features and is rumored to be Russell’s dad.

Plot
The story starts with Carl Fredricksen, a ten-year-old boy who is fascinated by the explorer Charles Muntz, who was discredited after claiming to have found a giant bird skeleton from Paradise Falls.
Carl meets Ellie, who shares his admiration for Muntz, they eventually fall in love with each other as time passes, and they dream of moving to Paradise Falls together.
As they grow up, Carl and Ellie marry, renovate an old house, and save for their dream trip. It took too much time for them to save for the trip. Something always came up, and they had to use their savings, but as time passed, they forgot about this dream trip.
Years later, they grow old, and Carl suddenly remembers their dream trip and also books flight tickets to Australia, but unfortunately, Ellie falls sick and dies before they can go.
Years later, elderly Carl refuses to leave his home despite being ordered to move to a care facility. Ellie tells Carl to go on the trip and to fulfill his promise to Ellie, he attaches thousands of balloons to his house, intending to fly to Paradise Falls.
Russell, a young wilderness explorer, accidentally joins him. They land near Paradise Falls and encounter a bird named Kevin and a talking dog named Dug. They discover Muntz, who reveals his obsession with capturing Kevin.
When Carl realizes Muntz's dangerous intentions, he chooses to save his home over rescuing Kevin, which disappoints Russell very much. However, Carl finds Ellie's scrapbook, which inspires him to continue their adventure.
Carl lightens the house and sets off again to rescue Kevin and Russell from Muntz. After a thrilling chase, Muntz falls to his death, and Carl and Russell return home with Kevin.
Russell earns his badge, and Carl gives him the "Ellie Badge," symbolizing their shared adventure. In the end, the house lands near Paradise Falls, fulfilling Carl and Ellie's dream.
