Saturday Night Live
Saturday Night Live (SNL) is a popular American TV show that airs late at night on NBC and streams on Peacock. Created by Lorne Michaels, it began on October 11, 1975, with George Carlin as the first host. The show features comedy sketches that often make fun of current events and politics, with a different celebrity host each episode.
It starts with a cold open sketch and ends with the famous line, "Live from New York, it's Saturday Night!" The show has had several showrunners over the years, with Michaels returning in 1985. SNL is filmed in Studio 8H at NBC's Rockefeller Plaza and has aired 968 episodes. It has won many awards, including 84 Primetime Emmy Awards, and has inspired similar shows in other countries.
SNL Cast Members
Saturday Night Live (SNL) has had 164 cast members throughout its run. Initially, the cast was known as the "Not Ready for Prime Time Players." Sid Caesar is the only person honored as an honorary cast member; he received a plaque during the goodnights of his hosting appearance in 1983.
