Why is Mako Mermaids Leaving Netflix?
The TV show Mako Mermaids is leaving Netflix even though it was made by Netflix. While the exact reason behind its departure is unknown, it is assumed that Netflix may renews its license. Netflix has had all four seasons of Mako Mermaids for eight years now. But in May 2024, they're taking them down. You can watch until May 26th, but they'll be gone for good on May 27th.
In May 2024, Netflix is taking down six of its original shows, including Mako Mermaids. Others leaving are Medici, Dying to Tell, and Laerte-se. Besides Mako Mermaids, Netflix also has the animated spin-off H2O: Mermaid Adventures. Some regions also have at least one season of the original H2O: Just Add Water.
About Mako Mermaids
Mako Mermaids is a TV show made for kids and teens. It's created by Jonathan M. Shiff and is a spin-off of H2O: Just Add Water. The show is produced by Jonathan M. Shiff Productions, along with Network Ten, ZDF, and Netflix. They also get help from Screen Australia and Screen Queensland. The series is about a teenager named Zac. He becomes a merman by accident when he falls into a magical pool of water on a made-up island called Mako.
Mako Mermaids Plot
Zac camps on Mako Island, where three mermaids Lyla, Nixie, and Sirena watch him. He touches the magic water, gaining the power to control water and becoming a merman. The mermaids, banished for letting Zac on the island, explore life on land to remove his powers.
In season 2, the mermaids explore Mako's secrets and search for a new home. Sirena stays with Ondina and Mimmi to remove Zac's powers, while Zac's girlfriend Evie becomes a mermaid. They find out Zac is Mimmi's brother and a natural merman.
In season 3, while Sirena is in Hawaii, Zac, Ondina, and Mimmi meet Weilan, an Eastern mermaid seeking refuge from a magical water dragon on Mako. They realize the dragon is Zac and Mimmi's mother and work to rescue her.
