Why is Shrek Leaving Netflix?
"Shrek" is leaving Netflix in July 2024 because of rules about how long movies can stay on streaming services. These rules say movies can only be available for a certain amount of time before they have to be taken off. Netflix adds new movies and takes away old ones regularly to keep its collection interesting for viewers.
If you like "Shrek" and other movies that are leaving, you should watch them before they're gone.
Shrek
"Shrek" is a popular animated movie from 2001 based on a children's book. Directed by Andrew Adamson and Vicky Jenson, it's about an ogre named Shrek, voiced by Mike Myers. Shrek's swamp home is filled with fairy tale creatures sent there by Lord Farquaad, voiced by John Lithgow.
To get his swamp back, Shrek agrees to rescue Princess Fiona, voiced by Cameron Diaz, from a tower guarded by a dragon. He's helped by his chatty friend Donkey, voiced by Eddie Murphy.
The movie was praised for its animation, voices, and funny jokes that appealed to kids and adults alike. It won an Academy Award for Best Animated Feature and helped make DreamWorks Animation a big name in movies. "Shrek" led to three sequels and spin-offs and remains a favorite in animated movie history.
Plot
"Shrek" tells the story of an ogre named Shrek who likes living alone in his swamp. But when Lord Farquaad sends fairy-tale creatures to his home, Shrek decides to rescue Princess Fiona to get his swamp back. With his friend Donkey, they face challenges, including Fiona's secret: she becomes an ogre at night.
Through misunderstandings and adventures, Shrek realizes he loves Fiona. He stops Fiona's wedding with Farquaad, which reveals a surprising twist that frees Fiona from her curse. In the end, Shrek and Fiona marry happily in the swamp, surrounded by their fairy-tale friends.
