Wolves vs Chelsea

Wolves and Chelsea both tried to recover after losing their opening weekend games when they met at Molineux.

Both teams had lost 2-0 to last season’s Premier League title contenders. Gary O’Neil’s Wolves were defeated by Arsenal, while Chelsea, dealing with off-field issues, couldn’t beat Manchester City.

Enzo Maresca later got his first competitive win as Chelsea’s manager in the first leg of their Conference League play-off against Servette, though his comments about having too many players at Stamford Bridge surprised some.

Chelsea’s European games caused this match to be moved from Saturday to Sunday, but it wasn’t shown live on TV in the UK.

Enzo Maresca had made nine changes for the Conference League play-off win over Servette, but likely returned to a similar lineup to the one that lost to Manchester City. Reece James remained suspended and was dealing with a hamstring issue. Ben Chilwell and Raheem Sterling were training away from the first-team squad, as they had been informed they were no longer needed.

The first half was evenly matched, with Nicolas Jackson scoring early for Chelsea, but Matheus Cunha quickly equalized for Wolves. Cole Palmer and Jorgen Strand Larsen then each scored right before halftime.

In the second half, Chelsea dominated, with Noni Madueke scoring three goals, all assisted by Palmer. Joao Felix, who came on as a substitute, added a late sixth goal on his second debut for the club. This big win marked the start of the Maresca era, while Wolves will need to improve quickly after their poor performance, which led to many fans leaving the stadium before the game ended.
