Will There Be a Fallout 5? Will There Be a New Fallout Game

Will There Be a Fallout 5?

Right now, there isn't much news about Fallout 5. We only know a little bit about it, and it's still in the early stages of development. It might be disappointing to hear, but Bethesda, the company making the game, seems to be focusing on other projects for now. What do we know about Fallout 5? Very little.

We've heard some hints about it since late 2021, but only a few details have been shared. Todd Howard, a big name at Bethesda, mentioned working on the story for the game with the creators of a TV show. But that's about it. We have yet to determine which engine the game will use, although it's likely to be the same one used for another Bethesda game called Starfield.

It could be a long time before we hear more about Fallout 5. Right now, Bethesda is busy with another big game called The Elder Scrolls VI. They've said it could be years before that game is finished, so Fallout 5 might take even longer. Another studio, like Obsidian, could work on a Fallout game in the meantime. But that would still take a while, and we haven't heard anything about it yet. So, while we wait for more news, there's not much we can do except be patient and hope for the best.

Release Date

There is no set release date for Fallout 5 because the game is still in its very early stages. Right now, it’s only in the conceptual phase, which means they are just planning it and haven’t started full production yet. This won't happen until after Bethesda releases their other game, The Elder Scrolls VI, which is still a few years away. Since Elder Scrolls VI isn't expected to come out until at least 2026, it means Fallout 5 is going to take even longer.

Big games like these can take between four and six years to make, so Fallout 5 might not be released until 2028 or later. So, if you're wondering about a release date, you will have to wait a long time. This means there's a lot of time before we even hear much about Fallout 5. If everything goes as planned, it's going to be many years before we get to play it.

What is it About?

It’s too early to know exactly what Fallout 5 will be about, but fans are already guessing. Many think the game might take place in cities like New York or Philadelphia, where mutants and mole rats would fit right in. Others hope for a change of scenery, like Canada, with its cold winters adding a spooky twist. Some fans think Fallout 5 might reference Fallout 76, the first online game in the series.

They imagine characters mentioning the "heroic people" from Vault 76. One thing's certain: Fallout 5 won’t be a direct sequel to Fallout 4. Each game explores new places and stories, with nods to the past for new players. Plus, Fallout 4 had different endings depending on your choices, so picking one for Fallout 5 might upset some players.

Xbox Wants to Claim Fallout 5

Xbox is eager to see the next Fallout game come out sooner because of the huge excitement around the Fallout TV show and the popularity of the game. But making the next game, maybe called Fallout 5, isn't going to happen right away. Right now, Bethesda Game Studios, the company making the game, is busy with other big projects like finishing Starfield and The Elder Scrolls 6. These games won't be done for a while, maybe not until the 2030s.

Xbox knows how much people want the next Fallout game, especially with all the recent excitement. They might even consider getting a different company to make it instead of Bethesda Game Studios. With the Fallout TV show getting lots of attention, Xbox wants to keep that excitement going. They know the next game in the series will be a big hit, so they want to make sure it comes out as soon as possible.

Early Plans

Even though it's still very early for Fallout 5, Todd Howard, a big name at Bethesda, has already started thinking about what the new game could be like. In an interview on the IGN Unfiltered Podcast in 2021, he said they have a "one-pager" for Fallout 5. This means they wrote down some basic ideas about the game's direction and what they want to do with it.

Howard has been laying out the general concept for the next Fallout game, but it's not very detailed yet. He's working on the big picture and the kinds of things the game might include. Even though he has some ideas, he said they're still in the beginning stages, and there's a lot more to figure out.

Howard also mentioned that he would like to speed up the process of making games, but he can't say for sure when Fallout 5 will be ready. This means there's no set date or clear timeline for when the game will be finished. Overall, it's clear that Fallout 5 is in the works, but it's going to take some time before we know more about it.

Fallout 5 Delayed the Release of Concepts From The Fallout TV Show

Recently, Todd Howard and the team working on the Fallout TV show talked about the story and making a live-action adventure in the Fallout world. Jonathon Nolan, one of the creators, said it felt like they were making "Fallout 5" because the show tells a new story in the game's world. Todd Howard talked more about this, saying he had talked with the show's team and asked them to avoid some story parts because they might use them in Fallout 5 later.

He said, “There were some things where I said, ‘don’t do this because we are going to do that in Fallout 5,” Howard revealed, with showrunner Graham Wagner adding, “I think we made Fallout 6.” This means the show and the game will explore different parts of the Fallout world. The show will focus on a person from a vault exploring Los Angeles, which might mean the next game could go to the West Coast. This gives us a clue about what to expect from Fallout 5.

What's the Deal With PlayStation?

Right now, Bethesda Game Studios seems to be focusing on releasing its new games only on Xbox and PC. Starfield is already out as an Xbox-exclusive game, and leaked Microsoft documents suggest that The Elder Scrolls VI might also be exclusive to Xbox. This makes it likely that Fallout 5 will follow the same path.

However, Xbox has started to share some of its games with other consoles. They announced that games like Sea of Thieves, Hi-Fi Rush, Grounded, and Pentiment would be available on other platforms. This shift shows that Xbox might be open to having some of its games on more than just Xbox consoles.

But does this mean Fallout 5 could come to other consoles, like PlayStation? It's too early to know for sure. If Fallout 5 did come to PlayStation, it might be on a future console like the PS6. We'll have to wait and see if Bethesda decides to make Fallout 5 available on more platforms, but for now, it's likely to be exclusive to Xbox and PC.

Fallout 5 Will Feature a More Advanced Engine

Bethesda, the company behind games like Skyrim and Fallout, announced they made big changes to the Creation Engine, which they use to create their games. This was to get ready for the release of two new games: Starfield and The Elder Scrolls 6. This updated engine is the most advanced version yet. Todd Howard, a key person at Bethesda, said it was the "largest [overhaul] we've probably ever had," even bigger than when they updated from Morrowind to Oblivion.

This improved engine means that the games will look and feel better. It will have improved graphics, which makes everything look clearer and more detailed. The engine will also have better pathing, which helps characters move more naturally. There will be improved lighting, so the game's scenes look more realistic, and NPC (non-player character) animations will be smoother.

Whether Bethesda uses this engine for Fallout 5 or upgrades it even more, the new game will use better tools than older Fallout games. This means Fallout 5 will likely have improved visuals and smoother gameplay, making it an exciting prospect for players.
