Big E, a former WWE Champion and Tag Team Champion, gave an update on his neck injury on the Getting Over Podcast. He said it's been two years since he broke his neck, specifically the C1 and C6 vertebrae.
He feels great and has no pain or weakness, but his C1 vertebra is healing with soft tissue instead of turning into new bone. This is fine for everyday activities but not for wrestling. Big E recently got stem cell treatment in Cancun to help the healing, but he hasn't been cleared to return to WWE yet.
What Happened to Big E?
In March 2022, WWE star Big E, whose real name is Ettore Ewen, suffered a critical neck injury during a match. The injury occurred during a botched bell-to-belly suplex, where he was slammed directly on his head instead of being flipped over, resulting in fractures to his C1 and C6 vertebrae.
Since the injury, Big E has not been able to return to wrestling. Despite attempts to make a comeback, his recent medical scans have shown that while his C1 vertebra has healed fibrously, it has not formed new bone. As a result, he has not been medically cleared to wrestle and may never be cleared to return to the ring.
Big E has shared updates with fans, revealing that although he may never wrestle again, he is currently free of pain, immensely happy, and otherwise healthy.
Is Big E from WWE Coming Back?
As of now, Big E from WWE is open to making a comeback, though his return depends on the full healing of his C1 bone, which is crucial for his long-term health and wrestling clearance. Despite feeling physically well and actively participating in non-wrestling roles such as pre-show appearances and charitable endeavors, he has not yet received medical clearance to resume in-ring competition.

Who is Big E?
Big E, whose real name is Ettore Ewen, is an American professional wrestler and former powerlifter signed to WWE. Born on March 1, 1986, in Tampa, Florida, he now appears only in non-wrestling roles due to a neck injury he suffered in March 2022. He is best known as a member of the popular tag team The New Day, along with Kofi Kingston and Xavier Woods.
Before wrestling, Big E played football at the University of Iowa and was a champion powerlifter. He also won a state championship in high school wrestling. He joined WWE in 2009, starting in their developmental league, Florida Championship Wrestling (FCW), where he was known as Big E Langston. He later became the second NXT Champion.
Big E moved to WWE's main roster in 2012 and found great success with The New Day, winning multiple Raw and SmackDown Tag Team Championships. The New Day holds the record for the longest Raw Tag Team Championship reign at 483 days.
In 2020, Big E began focusing on his singles career. He won the Money in the Bank ladder match in 2021 and later the WWE Championship, becoming the 33rd Triple Crown Champion in WWE history. He is also a two-time Intercontinental Champion.

His best lifts include a 711-pound squat, 529-pound bench press, and an 799-pound deadlift, achieving a total of 2,039 pounds in competitions.
In wrestling, Big E began in WWE's developmental territory, FCW, in 2009, winning the Florida Tag Team Championship before moving to NXT. He became NXT Champion in 2012 by defeating Seth Rollins.
