He began his film career with a small role in The Taking of Pelham One Two Three (1974) and appeared in TV shows like The Michael Richards Show, Star Trek: Enterprise, and Go On. Cobbs also played roles in movies such as Night at the Museum (2006), Air Bud, Ghosts of Mississippi, The Hudsucker Proxy, and That Thing You Do.
