Before joining WWE, Buddy Matthews wrestled mainly in Australia as Matt Silva, competing in promotions like Professional Championship Wrestling (PCW) and Melbourne City Wrestling (MCW). In 2013, he moved to the United States to work for WWE's developmental territory NXT. There, he teamed up with Wesley Blake and won the NXT Tag Team Championship, becoming the first Australian to achieve this in WWE.

Buddy Mathews joined WWE's main roster in 2018 on 205 Live and won the WWE Cruiserweight Championship later that year.
