Did Tiger Woods Make The Cut at The U.S. Open?

Tiger Woods did not qualify for the U.S. Open. He scored 3-over 73 on Friday and is now at 7-over for the whole tournament at Pinehurst. Tiger last qualified for the U.S. Open in 2019, and that's the only time he has made the cut in the past ten years. What is The Cut Line at The US Open?

At the U.S. Open golf tournament, the "cut line" is the score that decides which players can keep playing in the tournament and which ones can't. After Thursday's first round, 64 players had scores that were 2 over par or lower. At the end of the second round on Friday, the cut line was determined to be 5 over par. Players who ended the game with a score of 5 over par or higher were not allowed to continue playing.

A total of 74 players made it past the cut line and were able to keep playing in the tournament. Francesco Molinari, a well-known player, just managed to qualify by making a hole-in-one on the final hole, ending with a score of 5-over 145. Another well-known player who was close to being eliminated was the World No.

Scottie Scheffler had a hard time putting on Friday and ended up with a score of 5-over 145. He needed other players to also struggle in order to avoid missing the cut. The cut line is crucial in the U.S. Open as it separates the players, letting only the best ones compete for the championship over the weekend.

How Many Players Make The Cut at The U.S. Open?

In the U.S. Open golf tournament, the cut determines which players can keep playing after the first two rounds. Only the best 60 players, and those who have the same score as them, can compete in the final two rounds of the tournament. If a player has a high score compared to others, they might not be allowed to keep playing.

Prior to 2011, there was a different rule for players. They could continue to play if they were within 10 shots of the leader. But this rule was changed after the 2011 tournament. Currently, only the highest 60 players, determined by their scores, will advance to participate in the last rounds.

The cut is crucial because it distinguishes the top players from those who are not performing as well. It ensures that the best players compete in the final part of the tournament. This rule ensures that the U.S. Open is both fair and thrilling for everyone taking part.
