The accident happened when 48-year-old Ricardo Betancourt's truck had a tire blowout while traveling south on US-281, causing it to tip over and spill its load. Witnessing this, 67-year-old Mitchell Reinitz stopped to help Betancourt. While he was assisting, another truck, driven by 38-year-old Jeffrey Walker, crashed into the overturned trailer. This collision injured both Reinitz and Walker. Betancourt and Walker were taken to the hospital with serious injuries but are stable. Reinitz was also hospitalized but later transferred to a different hospital and remains in critical condition.
