Is Avengers Kang Dynasty Cancelled? Everything You Need to Know

Is Avengers Kang Dynasty Cancelled?

Yes, Marvel has other plans. The fifth Avengers movie, which was originally called "Avengers: The Kang Dynasty," is now called "Avengers: Doomsday." Marvel Studios has made some big changes to its plans for the Avengers movies. Originally, Kang the Conqueror was supposed to be the main villain in both the fifth Avengers movie ("The Kang Dynasty") and the sixth Avengers movie ("Secret Wars"). However, because of issues with Jonathan Majors (the actor who plays Kang), Marvel is now replacing Kang with Doctor Doom as the main villain.

This means that the storyline involving Kang is canceled, but the overall plan for the "Multiverse Saga" – which connects the MCU’s Phases Four to Six – will mostly stay the same. The Avengers will still face a major threat and there will be a big, multiverse-spanning conflict. Doctor Doom will just be the new bad guy, and the Fantastic Four will play a bigger role. The overall story should still be similar to what Marvel originally intended, just with different characters and details.

Why Marvel Renamed Avengers: The Kang Dynasty to Avengers: Doomsday?

Marvel changed the title of the fifth Avengers movie to "Avengers: Doomsday" because of Jonathan Majors' assault conviction. Since Majors played Kang, Marvel wants to distance itself from that association, even if they recast the character later.

Doctor Doom is a more famous villain, which could help attract fans back to the MCU. Recent movies like "Eternals" and "The Marvels" didn’t do well, so Disney is hoping that using Doctor Doom will create more excitement for the next phase of the MCU.

The Avengers: Doomsday

Right now, we don't know much about the plot of "Avengers: Doomsday." In the Ultimate Comics: Doomsday, the Fantastic Four and other Marvel heroes fought Doctor Doom, but it's unclear if the movie will follow that story. At Comic-Con, it was announced that both the Fantastic Four and Thunderbolts will appear in "Doomsday" and "Secret Wars." This means we'll see actors like Pedro Pascal as Reed Richards, Vanessa Kirby as Sue Storm, Florence Pugh as Yelena Belova, and David Harbour as Red Guardian in the films.

"Doomsday" is set to come out in May 2026, and filming will start in early 2025 in London, instead of the usual location in Atlanta, Georgia.

Robert Downey Jr. Plays Doctor Doom

Robert Downey Jr. will play Doctor Doom in "Avengers: Doomsday" and "Secret Wars," and he's reportedly getting paid over $80 million for his role. The movies will also include characters from the Fantastic Four and Thunderbolts. This means we might see characters like Reed Richards, Sue Storm, Johnny Storm, Ben Grimm, Bucky Barnes, Yelena Belova, Red Guardian, Taskmaster, Ghost, and Valentina Allegra de Fontaine. The complete cast hasn't been announced yet.
