Lucius Banda recorded his first album, "Son of a Poor Man," at Shandel Music Studio with producer George Arigone and backing vocals from Nomhlanlha Nkhize and gospel singer Debora Freser. Hits like "Mabala," "Get Up Stand," "Linda," and "Life On Earth" made the album popular.
In 1997, he formed his band, Zembani, to support local musicians in Malawi. Zembani Band has become renowned across Africa, with Lucius known for singing about the struggles of ordinary Malawians and speaking out against social injustices and political oppression.
