Karen Carpenter's Early Life
Karen Carpenter was born on March 2, 1950, in New Haven, Connecticut, to Agnes and Harold Carpenter. Her brother, Richard, was a piano prodigy, and Karen enjoyed dancing and playing sports as a child. The family moved to Downey, California, in 1963, where Karen joined the high school marching band and began drumming.
