Kpop
K-pop, or Korean popular music, is South Korean music that combines many forms such as pop, hip-hop, and rock with traditional Korean songs. It became extremely popular internationally in the 2000s. Korean pop music is sometimes known as gayo. Modern K-pop began to evolve in the 1990s when a group called Seo Taiji and Boys combined hip-hop with various forms. This made Korean music more contemporary and lively.
K-pop idols are similar to superstars in that they have large fan bases, primarily among teenagers and young adults. Beginning in 2003, groups like TVXQ and artists like BoA elevated K-pop to new heights in Japan and around the world. K-pop has gone viral thanks to social media and Korean TV series. Bands such as BTS and Blackpink have become really popular, making K-pop one of the fastest-growing music styles in the world by 2020.
