About Kansas City Chiefs
The Kansas City Chiefs are a football team from Kansas City, Missouri. They play in the National Football League (NFL) as part of the American Football Conference (AFC) West division. The team started in 1959 as the Dallas Texans, founded by Lamar Hunt. They were part of the American Football League (AFL). In 1963, they moved to Kansas City and became the Chiefs.
When the AFL merged with the NFL in 1970, they joined the NFL. The team is worth more than $3.7 billion. After Lamar Hunt passed away in 2006, his wife and kids took over the team. Clark Hunt, one of their children, has been the chairman and CEO since then. He makes decisions about the team and represents them in league meetings.
The Chiefs won three AFL championships in 1962, 1966, and 1969. They were the second AFL team to beat an NFL team in the Super Bowl, defeating the Minnesota Vikings in Super Bowl IV on January 11, 1970. This win happened right before the AFL and NFL merged. The Chiefs were also the second team (after the Green Bay Packers) to appear in more than one Super Bowl and the first AFL team to do so.
Despite early playoff success, they struggled for many years until recently. Since Andy Reid became head coach and with players like Patrick Mahomes and Travis Kelce, they've been doing really well. They've appeared in four Super Bowls since 2019 and won three of them: LIV, LVII, and LVIII.
