Kaytranada's Timeless Tour
Kaytranada has announced his 2024 "Timeless" tour in support of his new album, TIMELESS. Who is Kaytranada?
Kaytranada is a Haitian-Canadian music producer, rapper, singer, and DJ. He started gaining attention in 2010 with his mixtapes and remixes under the name Kaytradamus. By 2013, he became known as Kaytranada and signed with XL Recordings. In 2016, he released his first studio album, 99.9%, which received great reviews. His second album, Bubba, came out in 2019 and won him two Grammy Awards, including Best Dance/Electronic Album. Kaytranada is also part of the hip hop duo The Celestics with his brother, Lou Phelps.
Kaytranada Career
Kaytranada started his career as Kaytradamus in 2010 and changed his name in 2012. He gained popularity on SoundCloud in 2013 with his remix of Janet Jackson's "If." He has released 13 projects and 41 remixes and toured over 50 cities worldwide. In December 2014, he signed with XL Recordings and opened for Madonna's Rebel Heart Tour in 2015. Kaytranada also teamed up with producer Rick Rubin, which was confirmed in 2015.
Kaytranada's debut album, 99.9%, was released on May 6, 2016, featuring artists like GoldLink and Anderson .Paak. It won the 2016 Polaris Music Prize and received an 8.0 score from Pitchfork. His second album, Bubba, came out on December 13, 2019, with an 8.1 score.
In March 2021, he won two Grammy Awards for Bubba. In May 2023, he released a joint album with Aminé called Kaytraminé, featuring Pharrell Williams and Snoop Dogg. His third solo album, Timeless, is set to release on June 7, 2024, with collaborations from artists like Childish Gambino and Don Toliver.
Kaytranada Personal Life
Kaytranada, born Louis Kevin Celestin on August 25, 1992, in Port-au-Prince, Haiti, moved to Saint-Hubert near Montreal as a baby. His father worked as a taxi driver and estate agent, while his mother was in healthcare. His parents divorced when he was 14, the same year he started making music after his brother introduced him to FL Studio. He dropped out of high school to focus on music and support his family.
In 2021, Kaytranada became the first Black and openly gay artist to win a Grammy for Best Dance/Electronic Album for Bubba. He has shared his struggles with fitting in as a Black gay man and navigating his identity.
