Farthest planet from the sun LA Times Crossword Clue |
NEPTUNE |
Answer Explanation
Neptune is the farthest planet from the Sun in our solar system. Discovered in 1846, it is the eighth and outermost planet, located about 4.5 billion kilometers (2.8 billion miles) away from the Sun. Unlike the inner planets, which are rocky, Neptune is a gas giant with a composition primarily of hydrogen, helium, and methane. Its striking blue color is due to the presence of methane in its atmosphere, which absorbs red light and reflects blue.
Neptune's orbit is highly elliptical, and its distance from the Sun means it has a very long orbital period, taking about 165 Earth years to complete one orbit. Its remote position and extreme conditions make it one of the most mysterious and least understood planets in our solar system.
