In the ending of "My Oni Girl," we learn about Shion's true nature through her memories. The village has a tradition of choosing an oni to wear a special mask that controls the Snow Gods. This is done to keep the village safe. However, this responsibility makes the oni stay in the shrine all the time, which makes Shion angry.

She wants to be with her family. Shion becomes so angry that she commands the Snow Gods to eat the oni. But when Tsumugi reunites with her mother, something amazing happens: the mask disappears. This frees Shion from her burden and releases the Hidden Village from the control of the Snow Gods.
