The people of Palm Harbor, Florida, are very worried about Sterling Grover, a fisherman who has been missing for several days. His family and friends are anxious and hope he will be found soon.

Coast Guard Ends Search For Missing Fisherman

The U.S. Coast Guard has stopped looking for 29-year-old Sterling Grover, who fell off a fishing boat 80 miles from Sanibel Island at 10pm Friday. They decided to stop the search because of bad weather, including strong winds and big waves.

Rescue teams covered more than 2,700 square miles, about the size of Delaware. The boat’s captain called the Coast Guard at 10 p.m. Friday, saying Grover was not wearing a life jacket and was dressed in khaki shorts when he fell overboard. The search was called off because of the tough weather and no new information.

Rescue teams from Miami and Clearwater were sent out to search, but the effort was stopped Saturday night.

Commander Fredrick Pugh from the Coast Guard in Saint Petersburg said, “It’s never easy to stop a search and rescue mission. We offer our deepest condolences to Mr. Grover’s family and friends.”

Despite this, many of Grover’s family and friends, including the mother of his son, Ashlyn Boyd, are still hoping he will be found. Boyd says boat captains are using their own boats to look for him, hoping to spot him.

The captain told the Coast Guard that Grover fell overboard about 80 miles off the coast of Sanibel Island, Florida.
