The Nelon Family Plane Crash
The Nelons' family is grieving a tragic loss after a plane crash that killed three members of their Grammy-nominated gospel group.
On Friday, July 26, Kelly Nelon Clark, her husband Jason Clark, and their daughter Amber Nelon Kistler died in a private plane accident in Wyoming. They were on their way to a Gaither Homecoming Cruise to Alaska.
The crash also claimed the lives of the Nelons’ assistant and family friend, Melodi Hodges, Amber’s husband, Nathan Kistler, the plane’s pilot, Larry Haynie, and his wife, Melissa Haynie. Unfortunately, there were no survivors.
What Happened to The Nelon Family?
Jason Clark, Kelly Nelon Clark, and their daughter Amber Nelon Kistler were on their way to perform on a Christian music cruise to Alaska last Friday when their plane crashed in northern Wyoming.
Amber’s husband Nathan Kistler, their assistant Melodi Hodges, the pilot Larry Haynie, and his wife Melissa also died in the crash.
Jason and Kelly’s youngest daughter, Autumn, who is expecting a baby, was on a different flight with her husband. She is receiving support as she grieves her parents and older sister.
What Caused the Plane Crash?
The private plane they were on was a Pilatus PC-12/47E, according to the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB). The plane crashed and started a fire that needed to be put out, as confirmed by Campbell County Fire Chief Jeff Bender. The NTSB is investigating the crash.
A celebration of life service for Kelly, Jason, Amber, and Nathan will be held on Tuesday, August 6, at 1 p.m. at Roopville Road Baptist Church in Georgia. The service will also be livestreamed.
Who are The Nelons?
The Nelons, formerly known as the Rex Nelon Singers, were a southern gospel group based in Atlanta, Georgia. The group included Kelly Nelon Clark, her husband Jason Clark, and her daughters Amber Nelon Kistler and Autumn Nelon Streetman. They were honored by being inducted into the Gospel Music Association Hall of Fame in 2016.
In July 2024, Kelly Nelon Clark, Jason Clark, and Amber Nelon Kistler died in a plane crash in a remote area of Campbell County, Wyoming. The only surviving member, Autumn Nelon Streetman, was not on the plane.
