The Sympathizer Episode 5 Ending Explained

At the end of episode 5, "The Compassion Killer", the Captain is heartbroken over the loss of Sandra to Sonny, and begins to doubt his contribution to his mission. He goes to meet with Nicos, asking him to not cut Vietnamese lines in his movie, but feels frustrated when Nicos cannot promise him.

The Captain realises how powerful the General really is, so he decides to tell everyone about the General’s secret operation, and Sonny leaks the information to the press, forcing the General to speed up his plans. At the end of the episode, he learns about the intensive training for this operation, and searches for answers about Man, his childhood friend whose existence is being denied by the Vietnamese authorities in Vietnam.

Plot
