A former collegiate player, Day attended the University of New Hampshire, where he played as a quarterback and linebacker for the Wildcats from 1998 to 2001. Ryan Day married Nina (formerly known as Christina Spirou) in 2005. They had been friends since childhood. Nina Day grew up in Manchester, N.H. She and Ryan played football together as kids, even then, Ryan aspired to become a coach.

Who is Ryan Day?

Ryan Day has achieved remarkable success as head coach of the Ohio State Buckeyes, compiling an impressive 56-8 record over five seasons (2019-2023).

His tenure includes a dominant 39-3 record against Big Ten Conference opponents, back-to-back Big Ten championships in 2019 and 2020, and victories in the Sugar Bowl (2020) and Rose Bowl (2021). Under his leadership, the Buckeyes enjoyed significant streaks, including 16 consecutive overall wins and 23 straight wins in Big Ten games.

Notably, Ohio State is one of only three programs in the nation to qualify for the College Football Playoffs three times since 2019.

Day’s teams have consistently been among the best offensively, ranking in the Top 3 nationally in scoring three times and in the Top 10 for total offense four times.

In 2021, Ohio State led the nation in both total offense and scoring offense. Defensively, the Buckeyes have also excelled, ranking No. 1 nationally in total defense and passing defense in 2019. The 2023 team continued this tradition of excellence, ranking No. 1 in passing defense, No. 2 in scoring defense, and No. 3 in total defense. These achievements underscore Day’s ability to create balanced, high-performing teams on both sides of the ball.
