Ukraine's Vitalii Mykolenko, playing for Everton suffered an ankle injury during a friendly match against Moldova. He was substituted after 30 minutes due to this concern. His national team manager hopes it's not a serious injury. He underwent an MRI scan following his injury during the match. Despite initially trying to continue after receiving medical treatment in the 26th minute, he fell back down on his first return touch to the field.
Mykolenko made a comeback after recovering from an ankle ligament injury that ended his season during the Merseyside Derby in April. He played the first half of a friendly match against Poland, which Ukraine lost 3-1. Mykolenko came through Dynamo Kyiv's youth academy and played for their reserves in the Ukrainian Premier League before joining the senior squad in August 2017. He debuted in the Ukrainian Premier League on 20 August 2017, helping Dynamo Kyiv defeat Stal Kamianske. Mykolenko made his UEFA Europa League debut on 25 October 2018, starting in Dynamo's 2–1 win over Rennes, and was named the best young player of the 2018–19 Ukrainian Premier League season.
On 1 January 2022, Mykolenko signed a four-and-a-half-year contract with Everton in the English Premier League, wearing the number 19 shirt. He captained Everton in a gesture of support during an FA Cup Fifth Round match against Boreham Wood in March 2022, amid the conflict between Ukraine and Russia. Mykolenko scored his debut goal for Everton on 8 May 2022, a remarkable long-range volley in a 2–1 win over Leicester City in the Premier League.
Mykolenko played for Ukraine in youth teams before debuting for the national team at age 19 in November 2018 against Turkey.
