What Happened to Vargas on Chicago Fire?
Jose Vargas, played by Mo Gallini, sustained lung damage while working as a firefighter. It happened during a fire at a factory, where he breathed in magnesium bits. This accident made him unable to work anymore, so he was put on long-term disability. After this, Vargas struggled a lot because he missed being a firefighter.
At one point, he even tried to end his own life by jumping off the roof of Firehouse 51. Luckily, Severide and Casey were there and stopped him from doing it. Before the accident, Vargas was part of Truck 81 when the show started. Later on, he was promoted to Squad 3.
Why Did Vargas Leave Chicago Fire?
After Jose Vargas breathes in harmful smoke at a fire in an auto shop, his lungs get badly hurt. Doctors tell him he can't work as a firefighter anymore, so he goes on disability. Giving up his firefighter life is hard for him. Chief Boden, another firefighter, tries to help a teenager who might be setting fires on purpose.
At the same time, Severide gets a special invitation from Renee, a woman he rescued from a bad car accident with electric wires. Meanwhile, Cruz tries to keep his younger brother, Leon, safe from a dangerous gang. Casey and Severide work together to stop Vargas from doing something desperate.
