What Survives of Us is Love Doctor Who?
In the Doctor Who episode season 14, episode 3 "Boom," the Fifteenth Doctor ends with a quote from a Philip Larkin poem called "The Arundel Tomb." The Doctor says, "A sad, old man once told me, 'What survives of us is love.'" The man mentioned is probably Philip Larkin, a real poet who the Doctor has likely met. The quote, "What survives of us is love," fits well with the events of "Boom." In the episode, Joe Anderson's character, John Francis Vater, appears as a hologram after his death, still showing love for his daughter and helping to save her.
Philip Larkin was born in Coventry, England, in 1922 and died at 63 in 1985. The Doctor's quote in "Boom" is the last line of Larkin's poem "The Arundel Tomb," written in 1956. The poem has seven verses, each with six lines following an ABBCAC rhyme scheme. It's regarded as one of Larkin's best poems.
About Doctor Who Season 14
The fourteenth series of the British sci-fi TV show Doctor Who started on 11 May 2024 and will continue until 22 June. It's the fifth series with Russell T Davies as head writer and executive producer, and the first since he came back to the show after working on it from 2005 to 2010.
This is the fourteenth series since Doctor Who was revived in 2005 and the fortieth season overall. The fourteenth series was announced when Russell T Davies returned for the show's 60th anniversary in 2023. Bad Wolf is now a co-producer, and Disney+ has the international broadcasting rights. In marketing, this series is called "Season One" because of these production changes.
Doctor in Doctor Who Season 14
The series stars Ncuti Gatwa as the Fifteenth Doctor, a new version of the Doctor, an alien Time Lord who travels through time and space in the TARDIS, which looks like a British police box. The Fifteenth Doctor was introduced in "The Giggle" (2023) through a "bi-generation," where he split from the Fourteenth Doctor (David Tennant) instead of replacing him. The series also introduces Millie Gibson as Ruby Sunday, the Doctor's new companion.
