The dinosaur's cast, named Máximo, is huge—it's 122 feet long and 28 feet tall at the head. This model is based on real fossils from Argentina and shows just how massive this dinosaur was, even longer than a blue whale!

Patagotitan weighed around 70 tons, which is as much as 10 African elephants, like the ones on display next to Máximo.

Originally, scientists thought Patagotitan was the biggest dinosaur ever, with estimates of 121 feet long and 76 tons in weight. However, later research updated these numbers to around 102 feet long and 55–63 tons. This means Patagotitan might have been similar in size to or slightly smaller than other large dinosaurs like Argentinosaurus and Puertasaurus.

Despite this, Patagotitan is still one of the most well-known titanosaurs, and its relationships with other similar dinosaurs are well-studied. In 2022, its features helped redefine a group of giant dinosaurs called Colossosauria.

Discovery of Patagotitan mayorum

The Mayo family farm in La Flecha, Argentina, became famous when a rancher found a dinosaur bone in the desert. Scientists from the Museo Paleontológico Egidio Feruglio came to check it out and discovered something amazing: they unearthed over 130 fossils from at least six giant dinosaurs of the same type. They found an eight-foot-long thigh bone and most of the dinosaur's spine.

The cast of this dinosaur on display is based on these fossils, showing just how huge this dinosaur was during the Cretaceous Period.
