Jimbo Fisher started his coaching career as a graduate assistant at Samford University, working with quarterbacks under his former coach Terry Bowden. He became the offensive coordinator at Samford before moving with Bowden to Auburn University, where he coached successful quarterbacks like Patrick Nix. After Bowden left Auburn, Fisher had brief stints at Cincinnati and LSU, where he joined Nick Saban's staff and later worked under Les Miles.

Fisher became the offensive coordinator at Florida State University in 2007 and was named the "head coach in waiting," eventually succeeding Bobby Bowden in 2010. During his time at Florida State, Fisher led the Seminoles to three ACC championships and a national championship in 2013, with a 14-0 record.

In 2017, Fisher left Florida State to become the head coach at Texas A&M University. His time at Texas A&M saw some successes, including a 9-1 season in 2020, but also challenges, like the team's struggles in 2022. Fisher was fired in November 2023, with a $77.5 million buyout, the largest in college football history.
