Who Do You Play As In Hades 2? Everything You Need to Know

Who Do You Play As In Hades 2?

Hades 2 follows up on Supergiant’s smash-fuelled roguelike, the first game in the series. This time you play as Melinoe, Zagreus's sister and the daughter of Hades. She bears a striking resemblance to her brother, with his smooth voice and cool demeanor.

Melinoe is a bit more serious and not as playful as her brother, with a persona more suited to the princess of the underworld, but is no less sympathetic and just as well-written. She has much the same control over Zag as she does in the original game, but with some key changes that result in some very different play styles. For example, there is a sprint that you can use endlessly to get out of trouble, or – with the right boons boosting it – you can charge straight into it.

Should You Play Hades 1 Before Hades 2?

You don’t have to play Hades before you play Hades 2, but it’s a good idea to do so for a few reasons. First, the gameplay mechanics – movement, controls, skills, combat, etc. – are pretty much the same in both games. Second, there are a lot of returning characters in Hades 2. If you’re into mythology, you should know a lot of these characters. But if you haven’t played the first game yet, some of the story details might not make sense to you.

All in all, Hades proves to be an excellent game in its own right. It is an addictive, exciting ride through the depths of the underworld, and it’s often on sale for under $10.

Hades 2 Game Story Explained

Hades 2 is said to be a direct continuation of the original game, taking place “sometime after” Zagreus’ adventures in the Underworld. Set in and around Greek mythology, Hades 2 centers around Chronos, a Titan of Time, known as a “wicked father” to Hades and his brethren. Having escaped imprisonment in the underworld, Chronos now embarks on a war against Olympus. Although it is a direct sequel of the original, Supergiant states that you don’t need to be familiar with Hades or Greek mythology in order to get into Hades 2.

Hades 2 is full of Greek mythology and folklore. It will introduce a new playable character, Melinoë, an immortal princess of the underworld. As Zagreus's sister in the original game, she is also a character that has been taken from ancient mythology. According to Supergiant, she is based on an ancient underworld deity and is believed to be a relative of Hades in what little ancient mythology there is of her. With some mystery surrounding her character, the developers of Supergiant games were keen to explore her story and her relationship to her family, while also expanding on our idea of the underworld.

Hades 2 Gameplay

Hades will be a sequel to the action-packed first-party game, building on the gameplay of its predecessor. Players will follow Melinoe as she navigates a series of ever-evolving labyrinths, where each death is a fresh start.

Melinoe won't be alone, with the gods of Olympus ready to lend a helping hand. Apollo is set to return, as well as a variety of new characters to aid Melinoe. There are plenty of new weapons for the princess to choose from, such as a magical staff that uses powerful spells to repel foes, with more to uncover as the game progresses

Hades 2 Streaming Platforms

Hades 2 is set to be released on both PC and console, although the exact platforms have yet to be confirmed. It’s safe to assume that we’ll be getting the PS5 and Xbox series X/S, while we’ll also be getting last-gen systems, and the Switch is a bit of a mystery at this point. The game’s early access period will be exclusive to the PC.
