Who won the Masters 2024?

Scottie Scheffler won the Masters Tournament again for the second time in three years. He finished 11 under par, which means he did really well, and was four strokes ahead of the other players. Scottie Scheffler, a 27-year-old from America, was tied with three other players, Ludvig Aberg, Max Homa, and Collin Morikawa, when they reached the eighth hole. Then, Scheffler hit three birdies in a row, which helped him take the lead and keep it until the end. Ludvig Aberg, who was playing in his first Masters Tournament, ended up coming in second place.

Scheffler has been the best golfer in the world for over two years. He also won the Masters tournament in 2022, which was his first big win. Scheffler became the fourth youngest player to win the tournament twice. He's also only the second person, after Tiger Woods in 2001, to win both the Masters and The Players Championship in the same year.

Scheffler was born in Ridgewood, New Jersey on June 21, 1996. His dad, Scott, grew up in Englewood Cliffs and went to St. Cecilia High School in Englewood. His mom, Diane, grew up in Park Ridge. Scheffler is the only boy in his family with four siblings. He has three sisters named Callie, Molly, and Sara. The family lived in Montvale, New Jersey, until Scheffler was six years old. Then, they moved to Dallas, Texas, because of the September 11 attacks. Scheffler's dad stayed at home while his mom worked as the chief operating officer at a law firm called Thompson & Knight.

Scheffler started liking golf when he was three years old. His parents gave him some plastic golf clubs and a ball to play with. After they moved to Dallas, he got lessons at the Royal Oaks Golf Club from a coach named Randy Smith. Randy had also coached Justin Leonard, who won The Open Championship in 1997. Scheffler got married to his high school sweetheart, Meredith Scudder, in 2020.

Cash Prize for Masters 2024 Winner

Scheffler will get a big cash prize along with the green jacket, which is given to the winner of the Masters each year. The total prize money for the 2024 Masters is $20 million, which is the highest ever and $2 million more than last year. The winner this year will get $3.6 million from the prize money, which is a new record. It's more than the $3.2 million that Rahm got for winning the Masters in 2023. The rest of the $18 million prize money was shared among the 50 golfers who played in the tournament. How well they did in the tournament decided how much money each of them got.

Scheffler was in first place and Morikawa was in second on the leaderboard of the 2024 Masters before the final round on Sunday. They played together in the afternoon as the last pair of the day. Xander Schauffele and Bryson DeChambeau also played in the afternoon. DeChambeau was in fifth place and Schauffele was in sixth place when the round started.

Spanish golfer Jon Rahm, who is 29 years old and won the Masters tournament last year, played on Sunday to defend his title. However, he wasn't doing as well in the earlier rounds this weekend, so he wasn't in the running to win anymore. Woods also wasn't doing well by the last day of the tournament.

After making his 24th straight cut on Friday, which was a new record at the championship, Woods had his worst performance in the next round. Even though he's 48 years old, Woods has won the Masters five times before. On Sunday morning, he started his 100th Masters round by teeing off with 23-year-old amateur Neal Shipley.

History of Masters Tournament

The Masters Tournament happens every year at Augusta National Golf Club, a private course in Augusta, Georgia. It's been held since 1934 and has become one of the four most important championships in men's professional golf. Usually, it's held in the first week of April, making it the first major event of the season. After that come the PGA Championships, the U.S. Open, and the Open Championship, which are typically held in May, June, and July.

Since 1949, the tournament has had a few traditions. One of them is awarding a green jacket to the champion. The winner gets to keep it for a year but then has to return it to the clubhouse. However, it's still theirs to keep, and it's stored with other champions' jackets in a special cloakroom.

Since 1952, there's been a tradition called the Champions Dinner, started by Ben Hogan at the Masters Tournament. It happens on the Tuesday before the tournament starts and is only for past champions and certain board members of the Augusta National Golf Club. Also, starting in 1963, respected golfers, often past champions, have hit an honorary tee shot on the morning of the first round to kick off the tournament.

Since 1960, there's been a semi-social contest played on Wednesday, the day before the first round, on the par-3 course. Nicklaus has won the Masters the most times, with six victories between 1963 and 1986. Tiger Woods won five times between 1997 and 2019. Palmer won four times between 1958 and 1964. Five players have won three titles at Augusta: Jimmy Demaret, Sam Snead, Gary Player, Nick Faldo, and Phil Mickelson. Player, from South Africa, was the first non-American player to win the tournament in 1961; the second was Seve Ballesteros of Spain, who won in 1980 and 1983.

The Augusta National course opened for the first time in 1933, and it's been changed many times by different architects since then. Some of the changes include reshaping greens, sometimes completely redesigning them, adding bunkers, extending water hazards, building new tee boxes, planting hundreds of trees, and installing several mounds.
