Home and Away is an Australian TV soap opera created by Alan Bateman, first aired on the Seven Network on 17 January 1988. Bateman got the idea for the show after hearing complaints about a foster home in Kangaroo Point, New South Wales. Originally called Refuge, the name was changed to Home and Away for a friendlier tone. The show debuted as a ninety-minute special titled Home and Away: The Movie. Each regular episode runs for twenty-two minutes. It is the second longest-running Australian drama series, airing Mondays to Thursdays at 7:00 pm.

Home and Away Plot Line

Home and Away follows the lives of residents in Summer Bay, a fictional seaside town in New South Wales. It began with the Fletcher family, who moved from the city to run a caravan park. The show has addressed adult themes like teen pregnancy and addiction. Since 1988, exterior scenes have been filmed at Palm Beach, Sydney, while interior scenes are shot at the Australian Technology Park in Redfern. The series has faced controversy for its mature storylines.
