This game is made by fans that takes a lot of ideas from a type of game called roguelike. In these games, you go through randomly made dungeons, fighting bad guys and getting treasures. When you die, you start over, but you keep getting stronger each time, so it gets easier to play again.
Pokerogue does a great job of bringing the fun of roguelike games into the Pokémon world. You'll explore different places, meet lots of Pokémon from all nine generations, and have tough battles with other trainers and bosses. Each time you play, everything is different, like where things are and who you fight, so you always have to be ready for surprise
PokeRogue Gameplay
In PokéRogue, there are 4 game modes such as Classic, Daily Run, Endless, and Spliced Endless. Classic is the default mode, and it's the main one along with Daily Run. In Classic mode, you choose starters with a total cost of 10. It's the only mode where you can find the map item.
For every 10 waves, the biome changes in PokéRogue. When this happens, your Pokémon are healed and return to their Pokéballs. Using a map lets you pick the next biome from connected ones. In PokéRogue, gym leaders show up randomly. In every classic run, your rival will challenge you at the same wave.
In PokéRogue, every 10 waves without fighting a gym leader, a tough Boss Pokémon appears. You can't catch them until their health is very low. At waves 191-200, you're in the End Biome where Paradox Pokémon show up. You can try catching a second one if you've caught it before, otherwise, they're not catchable.
On wave 200, you face the final boss, Eternatus. It starts with certain moves and then transforms when its shields are low, gaining more moves. You can catch it when it's weak enough, but if your Pokémon is over level 200, it deals double damage.
